  • You don’t need a great microphone to sound good. While microphones vary from tens of dollars to tens of thousands of dollars, all of them are completely useless if your recording environment is unsuitable. Go soft or go home (or both!). Soft furnishings are key when it comes to recording voices. Your recording environment is the most important part of any audio content. I spend a lot of time treating badly recorded audio; the better you record at source, the better the audio will sound and the easier it will be to edit. This happened on my birthday, um, nine years before I was born. Unfortunately, Jackson’s dancing skills were not passed down to me on this of most holy days. The brilliant dancer he was, the King of Pop popularized the Moonwalk on Motown 25 in 1983.

If you’re looking to praise the Dark Lords with your flashy licks and hell-raising riffs, you’re going to need the right stuff for the job! The most important variable when buying an amp for metal is how it delivers distortion. You should make sure to get an amp that can really push the limits of distorting your guitar without completely degrading the tone to bits. Because of how much you need to drive your guitar, a lot of amps simply aren’t able to deliver super high-quality sound. Touring is great. But it can very quickly turn into exhaustive, monotonous work. Here are 10 great tips to keep things interesting and fun on the road.
  • Since soundproofing is such a complicated aspect of home recording, many people simply give up on it. But it’s important to realize that you don’t need to do everything all at once. Part of setting up a high-functioning home studio is trial and error, building things to your own specifications, and creating a multi-use space for any type of recording you’d like to do there. So take your time. The djembe is one of West Africa’s best known instruments. It is essentially a goblet-shaped drum carved from a single piece of African hardwood with a head made from rope-tightened animal hide.
  • Your mentor will then take the results of that phone call and put them into a personalized Learning Plan (LP) — and yes, we do get a kick out of calling it an LP, thank you very much. This includes your big-picture goals and activities that you plan to work towards in your four-week session. Your LP may evolve during the session, but it’s intended to provide an initial roadmap to ensure you’re on the same page with your mentor. Mentor: Ian Barnett

While the basic idea of sectional form can be stretched pretty far, it’s not uncommon to hear songs with additional types of sections. Pre-verses, post-choruses, breakdowns, ad-libs — there are plenty of examples of alternate forms. The bottom line is, a lot of banks don’t know what to do with you if you’re a working-class songwriter. If you’re one of the few who has major hits on the radio right now with gold records and Grammys adorning your office, they’re a bit more comfortable loaning you money. But for the vast majority of us, it may be a struggle. So what can a songwriter in your position do? Based on my own experience, I’m here to help you with a few tips.

Music is such a volatile and unpredictable market. You never know when a song will take off or not. Why risk taking a one-time work-for-hire fee for a few hundred dollars when you can have X% ownership? Owning and registering a publishing percentage ensures fair compensation if the release sells well. (For a quick crash course on royalties, rights, and publishing, check out our free course, How to Get All the Royalties You Never Knew Existed.) When we were just getting started, we worked with American artists like the Flashbulb and French hip-hop producer Kacem Wapalek. We also reissued the debut album by French house producer Bob Sinclar, Paradise, released in 1995 on Yellow Productions, and we teamed-up with labels such as Tru Thoughts and Einmusika Recordings.

As the company’s beautifully shot and edited video details, vinyl’s dramatic growth over the past 10 years is gravely hindered by a lack of pressing plants with the ability to fulfill the demand. Vinyl production today is expensive and time-consuming, slowing release times and often leaving artists with their backs against a wall. As we can see, these scales are almost identical except for one interval, the Augmented fourth in the F Lydian mode. This note is what I called before “the characteristic note” of that particular mode, the note that gives the F Lydian mode its peculiar sound — its “Lydian-ness” — and the one that differentiates it from sounding like a major scale.
  • “Get your Boss on with this original collection of line drawings depicting the many faces of Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen, the artist behind best-selling albums like Born to Run, The River, Born in the USA, and Chapter and Verse. A unique and fun gift for fans of all ages.” When word eventually spread across Europe of how talented this young player was, he started receiving employment offers from as far away as the Tsar of Russia — whom he declined when he was offered a higher salary by the Chapel of San Marco. He was such a legendary double bass player in his time, that his instruments were custom-built for his height and bodily specifications. In 1799, he traveled to Vienna to meet Joseph Haydn and ended up performing with Beethoven, himself, who transcribed his own Cello Sonatas to double bass so that they could play the pieces together, with Beethoven on piano.
  • Kenneth Estrada y Santiago is a producing songwriter, musician, and YouTuber, based in Berlin, Germany. In his YouTube channel, SHOEGAZER he reviews effect pedals, teaches guitar chords and interviews weller known bands of the shoegaze scene. He was the frontman of the band Downhill Willows and releases his own albums on Bandcamp. “Rockstar”: It’s hard to say how many chords this song really has. The way I hear it, it’s a C minor thing in the intro, and then you’re just swimming in a G minor and E♭ fish tank for the rest of the song. So that’s either a modulation from C minor to G minor, or you just start on the iv chord which was quickly dispatched by ninjas — take your pick. Watch how the phrase leading up to the first chorus stretches it to nine bars, rather than your regular eight, and how the outro has an irregular number of bars, too. What’s cool about this is how it obfuscates where the different sections begin or end.
